1. Tools Required
Hex key (Allen wrench) - Matches the socket size of the bolt's hexagon drive.
Drill (for pre-drilling pilot holes, if needed).
Wrench (for securing nuts on the machine-threaded end) .
2. Preparation
Check Bolt Type: Ensure the hanger bolt has:
Self-tapping wood thread (tapered end) for wood/MDF penetration.
Machine thread (straight end) for nut/washer assembly.
Pre-Drill Pilot Hole (Optional):
For hardwoods or dense materials, drill a pilot hole smaller than the wood thread diameter (e.g., 70% of the thread diameter) to prevent splitting 7.
Depth should match the wood thread length (e.g., 35mm for M8x75mm bolts) .
3. Installation Steps
Insert the Wood Thread End:
Align the self-tapping end with the pilot hole (or directly into softwood).
Rotate clockwise using a hex key until fully seated. Avoid over-tightening to prevent thread stripping.
Secure the Machine Thread End:
Attach the mating component (e.g., furniture leg) to the exposed machine thread.
Fasten with a nut and washer for stability. Use a wrench to tighten, ensuring even pressure.
Alternative Method (No Hex Drive):
If the bolt lacks a hex socket, grip the machine thread end with pliers and rotate the wood thread into the material 1.
4. Key Tips
Avoid Hammering: Never strike the machine-threaded end, as it may deform threads 1.
Corrosion Resistance: Zinc-plated or stainless steel bolts are recommended for outdoor/high-moisture applications 37.
Load Testing: For critical joints, conduct a pull-out test to verify holding strength 1.
